Devon Air Ambulance Launches New Community Landing Site at Central Park

Devon Air Ambulance has opened a new community landing site at Central Park in Plymouth, improving the charity’s ability to respond to emergencies during the night. This new site, which is the second in the city after Keyham, will allow air ambulance teams to reach patients more quickly during hours of darkness.

The site is Devon Air Ambulance’s 204th surveyed landing site, and the playing field was thoroughly examined to give aircrews a clear understanding of its key features and the surrounding landscape before arriving by helicopter.

Graham Coates, Landing Site Manager at Devon Air Ambulance, commented: “It’s great news that this community landing site at Central Park is now operational, and alongside the site in Keyham, we can now reach even more local people by air when it’s dark. My thanks to Plymouth City Council’s Green Communities Team for their support in getting this landing site operational. The Local Councillors and stakeholders at Central Park have all been very supportive, enabling this project to come together so successfully.”

Cllr Tom Briars-Delve, Plymouth City Council cabinet member for the environment and climate change, added: “We’re delighted that Central Park is now officially a Devon Air Ambulance nighttime landing spot. While we hope it never has to be used, it could potentially be lifesaving for anyone in need.”
