Hedgerow Hound Announces Closure After 6 Successful Years of Vegan Cuisine
Hedgerow Hound, a popular family-run vegan food business in Plymouth, is closing its doors after six years of serving the community. The family plans to explore new ventures, possibly including a cookbook.
After six successful years of serving delicious vegan food, Hedgerow Hound, a family-run business, is set to close at the end of March 2025. The news, announced by Jess and Andrew “Tom” Thomson and their daughter Lily, has left fans saddened. The family shared the update on social media, expressing their heartfelt decision to step away from the hospitality industry and begin a new chapter in their lives.
During their time running Hedgerow Hound, the Thomsons achieved remarkable milestones, from delivering meals and making bread during lockdown to catering for local events, festivals, weddings, and even being featured in international documentaries and radio. Their café at Plymouth Market, which opened in late 2023, became a popular spot for vegan enthusiasts and locals alike.
Jess and Tom shared, “We have managed to do pretty much everything you could do in our time running Hedgerow. Now, we feel it’s the right time to end it, on a high.” They expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received over the years and hinted at a potential cookbook featuring their family recipes, something that has been highly requested by their customers.
To celebrate their final month, the family plans to host special street food weekends, offering their signature dishes such as tandoori wraps, beetroot Bhajis, palembang bowls, and roast wraps. The Thomsons hope to celebrate their journey and give one last chance for their customers to enjoy the food that has brought them so much joy.
Despite the closure, Jess and Tom emphasized that the legacy of Hedgerow Hound will continue in some form. They expressed deep appreciation for their loyal customers, noting that many were not even vegan but simply enjoyed the good-quality, locally made food. Hedgerow Hound’s vegan pasty even won a gold award at the 2023 Taste of the West awards, further highlighting their impact on the local food scene.
The family also thanked the Plymouth community, partners, and organizations, including Nudge Community Builders, Real Ideas, and Plymouth City Council, for their invaluable support over the years. In closing, Jess and Tom praised their team, saying, “They are our rock, and we are incredibly grateful for all they have done as part of the Hedgerow family.”
