Major House Fire in Plymouth's Blandford Road Sparks Emergency Response

A major fire broke out at a semi-detached property on Blandford Road in Plymouth, leading to road closures and a large emergency response. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze, which spread to a neighboring home.

A major fire broke out this afternoon, Wednesday, March 26, on Blandford Road in Plymouth, triggering a large emergency response. Police, fire, and ambulance crews have been seen at the scene in Efford, where multiple witnesses reported a serious incident.

One witness described the scene: “Roads are blocked, people are running. It’s a house fire, about ten police have flown up Pike Road.” Another witness stated: “There’s another fire at the moment at the bottom of Blandford Road, Efford.” A video from the scene shows smoke billowing from a roof, with fire hoses being used to douse the flames.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed receiving multiple calls at 3:49 PM regarding a fire at a semi-detached property on Blandford Road. Five fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform are currently at the scene. Upon arrival, the first floor was found to be ablaze, and the fire had spread to a neighboring property. Crews are making steady progress using two hose reel jets and a safety jet to contain and extinguish the fire.

Firefighters are also checking adjoining properties for any further spread of the flames. Fortunately, all individuals are accounted for, and those in need of medical assistance are being treated by paramedics.

In the meantime, road closures have been implemented along Blandford Road in both directions, from Dartmeet Avenue to Carlton Close. The police have confirmed that the incident is ongoing and that a woman was safely removed from the property by firefighters and is being checked by paramedics.
