Plymouth Magistrates' Court has been busy with a variety of criminal cases, with many involving driving offenses. Drug driving and speeding violations have been regularly appearing on the court's docket, especially concerning the Old Laira Road, where a significant number of speeding fines have been issued since April 1, 2022. The upcoming 20mph zone on Stoke Road is expected to add more cases to the court's workload.

In addition to speeding cases, several individuals have faced charges related to drink and drug driving. For example, Martin Wallace, aged 47, was caught driving with 123mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath and was disqualified from driving for 30 months. Similarly, William Massey, aged 21, was caught driving under the influence of Benzoylecgonine and while disqualified. He was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison, suspended for six months, and disqualified from driving for 36 months.

Other notable driving offenses include Jacob Journeaux, who drove a Ford Transit while disqualified and received a fine and six points on his driving record, and Mark Jefferis, who was fined for speeding on Old Laira Road and disqualified for six months.

The court also dealt with a variety of other criminal cases, such as theft, drug offenses, and even possession of weapons. Neil Finn, aged 29, was given a community order for stealing items worth £91.99, and John Bentley, aged 45, was sentenced to prison for possessing a Stanley knife in a public place. In another case, Francis Taylor, aged 43, was found in possession of cannabis and production plants, receiving a community order and 180 hours of unpaid work.
