Plympton Residents Warned About Fake Beggars Exploiting Generosity
Plympton residents have been warned about a group of professional beggars operating in the Ridgeway area. Police confirmed the group is not in genuine need and advised the public to report any sightings.
Residents of Plympton have been alerted about a group of fake beggars operating in the area, particularly in the Ridgeway. According to the Plympton Police, the group consists of professionals who travel across the country, taking advantage of people's kindness by begging for money.
The warning was issued on Friday, April 4, and the police confirmed that the group had already been moved on from the area. However, they urged the public to report any sightings of the group to Devon and Cornwall Police.
Police stated that the group is not in genuine need and has been seen discarding food and drinks that were given to them by passersby. “They are professionals who travel the country and take advantage of people's generosity,” Plympton Police commented. “They have been seen to accept your kind and generous offers of food and drinks, only to discard it in the waste bins. They are there for financial gain.”
Officers from the Plympton Neighbourhood Team acted promptly and moved the group on from the Ridgeway on Friday morning. Anyone who spots the group again is encouraged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via phone at 101 or through their webchat service.
