Woman Rescued from Mudflats Near Torpoint After Getting Stuck

A woman was rescued from mudflats near Torpoint after becoming stuck waist-deep. Emergency services, including fire crews, coastguard teams, and paramedics, successfully freed her and brought her to safety.

A woman was rescued from mudflats after becoming stuck waist-deep near Cangapool, Wilcove, close to Torpoint. The incident occurred just before 1 pm today.

Emergency services, including several fire crews, coastguard search and rescue teams, Devon and Cornwall Police officers, military police, and a Hazardous Area Response Team, were called to the scene.

A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service stated that water rescue crews from Camels Head in Plymouth and St Austell fire stations, along with additional crews from Saltash and Looe, attended the scene. The spokesperson explained, 'At the time of the call, it was established that the rescue was required on a falling tide. A joint plan between coastguard and fire services was decided and executed, using two rescue sleds to reach the woman trapped in the tidal mud.'

After the rescue, the woman was pulled back to shore using a Caxton winch, with the sleds and the casualty safely returned to land.

The woman was then handed over to paramedics once she was safely on solid ground.
