A driver from Bere Ferrers is set to be sentenced later this year after admitting to deliberately causing grievous bodily harm by driving his vehicle into a pedestrian.
Jordan Blackmore, 29, from Fore Street, Bere Ferrers, was arrested following an incident on Southside Street at around 2 PM on November 21 last year. The shocking event, captured on CCTV and later circulated on social media, shows self-employed bricklayer Jamie Elliott stepping out of an orange Volkswagen van and walking toward Blackmore's parked blue Audi S3.
As Elliott approached, Blackmore initially drove away but then suddenly reversed at high speed, striking Elliott and crushing him against the front of the Volkswagen van.
Following the incident, Blackmore voluntarily surrendered himself at Charles Cross police station. He was initially arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving but was later charged with wounding with intent and a public order offense.
Authorities closed the road for investigation, with emergency services, including the ambulance and RNLI, attending the scene.
In court, Blackmore pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but denied a charge of using threatening behavior toward Elliott’s pregnant partner, who was expecting twins at the time. The Crown Prosecution Service accepted his plea.
During the hearing at Plymouth Crown Court, Blackmore’s defense attorney, Nick Lewin, stated that sentencing had been reserved for Judge Robert Linford due to his prior review of the CCTV footage. Judge Simon Levene adjourned the case, stating that a sentencing date would be determined soon. Until then, Blackmore will remain in custody.
