Bovey Castle: A Luxurious Getaway in Dartmoor National Park

Bovey Castle, located in Dartmoor National Park, offers a stunning combination of natural beauty, historical architecture, and luxurious amenities, making it an ideal getaway for relaxation and adventure.

If you're looking to escape and unwind, Bovey Castle in Dartmoor National Park is the perfect place. This five-star luxury hotel offers a blend of stunning landscapes, historical architecture, and modern amenities. Located within the vast grounds of Dartmoor, the castle is a true sanctuary for those seeking peace and tranquility.

The grand building, a mix of Gothic and Art Deco styles, stands as a testament to its rich history. Originally built in 1890 by the WH Smith family, it has served various purposes over the years, including as a convalescent home during World War I and a military hospital in World War II. Today, it is a luxurious hotel with an 18-hole golf course, spa, pool, and excellent dining options.

Our stay at Bovey Castle began with a warm welcome and a quick, friendly check-in. The room was stunning, featuring a four-poster bed, a spacious seating area, and breathtaking views of Dartmoor. The attention to detail was evident with thoughtful touches such as locally-sourced sloe gin and truffle popcorn, a bouquet of flowers from the kitchen garden, and luxurious robes for the pool.

The hotel's facilities include a spacious spa, a large pool, and a golf course that remains a highlight since its opening in 1930. For dining, we enjoyed a meal at the Great Western Grill, where we were treated to beautifully presented starters and main courses, including oak-smoked salmon and duck, paired with a fine selection of wines. After dinner, we relaxed in the piano room with a cocktail.

Despite the rainy weather, we explored the hotel's grounds, visiting the kitchen garden and fishing lake. Bovey Castle offers a wide range of activities, including 4x4 riding, clay pigeon shooting, gin-making, and beekeeping courses. The hotel also caters to families, with a kids' afternoon tea menu and special hours for children to enjoy the pool.

Whether you're seeking relaxation or adventure, Bovey Castle has it all. The combination of natural beauty, historical charm, and luxurious amenities makes it a must-visit destination. I highly recommend Bovey Castle for anyone looking for a truly special getaway.
