Flood Warning Issued for Devon and Cornwall Amid Heavy Rain

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain in Devon and Cornwall, with heavy downpours expected until tomorrow morning. Flooding may cut off some communities, pose a danger to life, and cause travel disruptions. Strong winds are also expected across the South West.

A flood warning has been issued for Devon and Cornwall as heavy rain is set to continue across both counties until tomorrow morning. The Exeter-based Met Office has released a yellow weather warning, stretching from the tip of Cornwall to Exeter, warning that some areas may be cut off by floodwater, posing a risk to lives.

The Met Office stated: “Fast-flowing or deep floodwater is possible, creating a danger to life.” It also warned that “some communities may be cut off by flooded roads.”

According to forecasts, Devon and Cornwall are expected to receive between 20mm and 40mm of rainfall, while Dartmoor could see as much as 70mm to 100mm.

A fresh warning has been issued from noon today until 8 a.m. tomorrow, with the Met Office cautioning that heavy rain may cause localized flooding and significant disruptions. The conditions could impact travel, potentially lead to power cuts, and make roads hazardous.

The Met Office further warned that spray and flooding could result in difficult driving conditions and possible road closures. In addition, power outages and service disruptions to homes and businesses are expected, with some buildings at risk of damage due to flooding.

Strong Wind Warning in Effect

Alongside the flood warning, a yellow weather warning for wind remains in place across the South West until 6 p.m. today. Strong winds could cause travel disruptions, with delays expected for road, rail, air, and ferry transport.

The Met Office has advised that bus and train services may be affected, and some journeys could take longer than usual. There is also a risk of short-term power cuts and potential delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.
