Man Assaults Tesco Staff and Damages Door in Plymouth After Failed Cheese Purchase

A man assaulted a Tesco worker and damaged a door after being denied the purchase of cheese due to insufficient funds. Police are seeking public help to identify the suspect involved in the incident in Plymouth.

Police are appealing for public assistance after an assault and criminal damage incident at a Tesco store in Plymouth. A man entered the Tesco Express on Cobourg Street and attempted to buy cheese but was unable to pay due to insufficient funds.

After being denied the purchase, the man became aggressive, throwing coins at a staff member. He then proceeded to damage a door as he left the store.

The Devon and Cornwall Police have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may help with their investigation. Police are asking anyone who recognizes the man or has further information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting the reference number 50250010290.

In a statement, the police said: “We are appealing for the public’s help in identifying this man following an assault and criminal damage in Plymouth. It was reported that between 12:15 pm and 12:20 pm on January 14, 2025, a man entered the Tesco Express on Cobourg Street in Plymouth. He tried to purchase some cheese, and when he didn’t have enough money, he assaulted a staff member by throwing coins. The man then damaged a door as he left the store. It is believed the man pictured may be able to help with our enquiries.”
