Plymouth Pride 2025 Cancelled Due to Lack of Funding and Volunteers

Plymouth Pride 2025 has been cancelled due to insufficient funding and volunteer support. The event, which was scheduled for July 12, 2025, will not take place as organizers struggle to secure resources.

Plymouth Pride 2025 has been cancelled due to a lack of funding and volunteer support. Organizers took to social media to announce the unfortunate news, confirming that the event, scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, will not go ahead as planned.

In a statement, the organizers expressed their regret, stating: “It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of Plymouth Pride 2025, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday 12th July 2025 on Plymouth Hoe. Despite our best efforts, the lack of national and local funding, alongside a decline in volunteer support, has made it impossible to deliver the event this year.”

Plymouth Pride is managed entirely by a small group of volunteer directors, but this group has significantly diminished over the years. The organizers explained, “This year, there are simply too few people involved to dedicate the necessary time and energy around our regular jobs.”

Despite public appeals for help, very few individuals came forward, leaving the organizers without the crucial support needed to run a safe and successful event.

Last year’s Plymouth Pride cost over £33,000, covering expenses such as security, medical services, production, and road closures. However, the event’s income fell short, forcing the organizers to dip into £12,000 from previous surpluses. The organizers had hoped to secure additional support through National Lottery funding, but their application was unsuccessful.

Although the main event will not take place this year, organizers remain hopeful and are committed to keeping the Pride spirit alive. They are planning fundraising events throughout the year to build financial resilience and keep the community engaged.

A spokesperson from Plymouth Pride expressed their gratitude to sponsors and supporters who financially contributed to last year’s event, including Councillors Penberthy, Goslin & Penrose, Babcock, City Bus, BT Group, Tesco, Livewell Southwest, NHS, University Hospitals Plymouth, OMG, Moxy Hotels, Drake Circus & The Barcode, Plymouth Community Homes, Plymouth University, Harbour, Unite the Union, and Sirva. They also thanked POP Collective for their invaluable support.

The organizers emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating that the future of Plymouth Pride is at serious risk without increased financial support and volunteer participation. They called on the local community to engage through volunteering, donations, and sponsorship to ensure the event’s return in 2026.
