Suspicious Object Found Near Plymouth Waterfront Sparks Emergency Response
A large emergency response was triggered in Plymouth after a suspicious object, described as 'identifiable ordnance', was found near Pound Street. The bomb squad and coastguards are investigating the object, awaiting low tide for further examination.
An emergency response has been triggered in Plymouth following the discovery of a suspicious object near the waterfront. The alarm was raised on March 16 after an individual discovered what police have described as an 'identifiable ordnance' in the vicinity of Pound Street.
A police cordon has been set up around the area, though the exact boundaries of the cordon have not yet been confirmed. The bomb squad and coastguards are currently at the scene, waiting for the tide to recede further before conducting a full investigation of the object.
A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police stated: 'An unidentifiable ordnance has been located. Coastguards and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are at the scene and assessing it now. However, they can't confirm if it is a device or not because it is currently submerged underwater.'
The bomb squad is expected to conduct further investigation once the tide goes out further, which is expected to be around 11:45pm. The police cordon remains in place in the area.
The suspicious object was discovered sometime after 2pm, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
