Carpenter Dies After Drug-Fueled Rooftop Incident in Cornwall
Jason Pearson, a 30-year-old carpenter from Plymouth, died after a drug-induced episode led him to jump across rooftops in a Cornish village. Despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to mixed drug toxicity.
A skilled carpenter from Plymouth, Jason Pearson, tragically died following a drug-fueled episode in the seaside village of Polperro, Cornwall. The 30-year-old had relapsed into substance abuse after years of sobriety, consuming large amounts of cocaine, MDMA, and other drugs in the days leading up to the incident on July 30.
Pearson, who once worked for Princess Yachts and was known as a 'gentle giant' by family and friends, reportedly had a falling out with a friend at a petrol station before driving erratically to Polperro with no clear purpose.
Local resident Jane Antoinette described witnessing him drive the wrong way up a hill, crash his van, and then begin jumping from rooftop to rooftop while screaming that he was going to jump. She told the inquest, 'He looked like a clumsy Spiderman... he was falling everywhere.'
Emergency services, including ambulance, police, and fire crews, were called to the scene. However, due to the difficult access to the roof of the building where Jason collapsed, there were delays in reaching him. Firefighters eventually retrieved him and attempted CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A postmortem confirmed that Jason had suffered mixed drug toxicity, which likely led to a cardiac arrest. Senior coroner Andrew Cox concluded that his death was drug-related, noting Pearson's past struggles with cocaine and a recent relapse.
