Police Investigate Death of Plymouth Man After Welfare Concern Raised
Police are investigating the death of 57-year-old Graham Winterbottom after his landlady raised concerns about his welfare. A post-mortem has been requested to determine the cause of death.
Police are investigating the death of 57-year-old Graham Winterbottom following welfare concerns raised by his landlady, an inquest has heard. The brief hearing, held on May 6 at Exeter County Hall, the main coroner's court for Devon, Plymouth, and Torbay, noted the passing of Winterbottom, who was found deceased at his residence in Plymouth.
The court was informed that Graham Winterbottom, who was born in Plymouth, lived alone in an address on Embankment Road. His death occurred on April 28, 2025, and he was divorced at the time. His occupation was not known. It was reported that Graham had not been seen for some time, prompting his landlady to request a welfare check on the property. Upon entry, Winterbottom was found deceased.
The coroner explained that following the discovery of Graham's body, police conducted a review of the death, and a post-mortem was requested. The pathologist has taken samples to help determine the cause of death, though the medical cause has not yet been confirmed. The hearing was adjourned, and a full inquest will be held at a later date to provide further details.
The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.
