Devon Man Missing for 22 Years: Family Continues Search After Mother's Death

Neil Nortrop, who disappeared in 2003, remains missing 22 years later. His mother passed away without knowing what happened, and now his sister continues the search with the support of Missing People.

Neil Nortrop, a man from Devon who has been missing since 2003, would have turned 54 today. His mother, Pam, died last year without ever learning what happened to her son. Neil, also known as Neil McGarthland, was last seen on June 10, 2003, after visiting friends in Greenwich and Dartford.

The last contact Pam had with her son was during a phone call the day after his visit. She remained hopeful for many years, refusing to move from her home in Brixham, Torbay, in case Neil returned. Sadly, she passed away in 2023. Her daughter Alex has now taken over the family's ongoing search for answers, working closely with the charity Missing People.

In a statement marking Neil's birthday, the family shared: 'We are searching for answers as to what happened to him so we can have closure. It is now 22 years on, and it seems like yesterday. We are appealing to those who may have some answers to come forward.'

Neil was described at the time of his disappearance as being 5ft 11in tall, with a muscular build, cropped fair hair, blue eyes, diamond studs in his teeth, several tattoos, and a scar under his left eye. He was last seen driving a blue Ford Mondeo with registration W568 XBD.

The public can support the search for Neil by visiting his appeal page on the Missing People website, where they can report sightings, download posters, and share his story on social media and public platforms.

Ndella Senghore, Publicity Officer for Missing People, said: 'Neil, if you are reading this, please get in touch. You can call us on 116 000 or email [email protected]. Our service is non-judgemental, confidential, and free. We just want to provide you with the support you need and help you to be safe.'

The Missing People helpline is available for those who are missing, considering going missing, or loved ones left behind. Reports can also be submitted anonymously through the charity's website.
